The Medicine Service line is seeking a System Section Chief, Endocrinology

Core Responsibilities:

• Define and Drive Clinical Excellence
  • Establish standards/metrics and collaboratively drive outcomes in quality, safety and experience
  • Leverage partnerships with Medicine Service Line nursing, administrators, medical teams and other key stakeholders across the system to build and actuate care models that will achieve a seamless system of care, reducing variation across the system.
• Lead in a style that encompasses and demonstrates the Inova values.
• Develop and build the Endocrinology Section
  • Contribute to the development of the Service Line through the definition and development of clinical capabilities and involvement with strategic decision making
  • Establish the criteria and qualifications to be a member of the Endocrinology Section, promoting active engagement of all team members, including employed and independent physicians
  • Assist in recruiting, retaining, and developing high-quality physicians/providers to join the Endocrinology Section
  • Participate in identifying, evaluating, and implementing growth initiatives with a focus on patient safety, quality, and value
• Assist in Operations Improvement
  • Assist in operating the Endocrinology Section and the Service Line in a fiscally judicious, transparent, and sustainable fashion. Supervision of value improvement projects
  • Work with outpatient, inpatient, OR, supply chain, etc. leadership to improve operational efficiencies
• Adheres to patient care and admission criteria policies and procedures of the Department of Medicine.
• Provides direct hands-on care to patients within the limits of credentials granted by the Medical Staff at the individual hospitals of the Inova Health System in recognition of advanced training and experience in this field.

• Ability to travel and work at all sites of care, designated by Service Line Leadership
• Lead and chair Endocrinology Section specific groups
• Chair the Endocrinology Section Council
• Any other defined role per Inova Medicine Service Line leadership direction

Additional Responsibilities:

• Work with the Service Line Triad to shape the clinical, research, educational affairs, and disaster management preparedness of the Service Line
• Regularly attend and contribute to Service Line meetings and activities
• Partner with the Inova Foundation to engage grateful patients to support our established priorities
• The physician will maintain a working relationship with the staff of ancillary services (i.e. respiratory services, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy) involved in patient care in the department of medicine and the operating room, to facilitate optimal delivery of services.
• The physician adheres by the established billing procedures for clinical services provided to patients.
• Management of billing for Endocrinology Section
• The physician will provide adequate information in the medical record and in the billing database to facilitate billing for professional services rendered to patients as inpatient attending physician.
• Abides by the bylaws, rules and regulations of hospital medical staff.
• Annual formal evaluations (Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluations -OPPE) will be performed by the President of the Medicine Service Line and the Administrator or designee with input from the nursing administrative staff, and other personnel with whom the physician interfaces as determined by the President.
• Establish the academic aspect of the Endocrinology section which includes research and education

• Board certified/eligible in Endocrinology
• Licensed to practice Endocrinology (medicine) in the State of Virginia
• Appointed to active medical staff annually with clinical privileges in medicine, to include the care of adults with complex Endocrine related disease.
• Extensive clinical and administrative experience, as well as direct involvement in managing a clinical program and demonstrated medical staff leadership that includes:
  • Management style that emphasizes communication, collegiality, collaboration, flexibility and the ability to build high-performing multidisciplinary teams consistent with Inova values.
  • Commitment to continuously improving clinical effectiveness, including quality, safety and patient experience and elimination of unwarranted variability.
  • Business acumen, management skills, and fiscal knowledge.
  • Ability to build relationships both inside and outside the organization.
  • Experience as a community physician, or extensive dealings with community physicians, and an understanding of private practice.
  • Ability to mentor, develop, inspire and lead medical and support staff, establishing a culture of accountability and teamwork among a diverse, highly qualified medical and support staff.
  • Ability to plan and delegate assignments, review work, and monitor progress toward goals.
