The Prevention Center Research Clinic is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) to fill the role of Research Clinic APP and Administrator. This position will work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.

This position is a part-time (0.5 FTE), regular, onsite position at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The Prevention Center provides staffing and implementation support to investigators across the Fred Hutch, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium. We work with a variety of dynamic, mission-oriented research teams, with wide-ranging study questions. Studies can be focused on nutrition, exercise, and quality-of-life interventions for those living with cancer, other chronic diseases, as well as the community. Research projects may also involve testing preventive vaccines. Faculty from the Fred Hutch's Public Health Sciences, Clinical Research, and Vaccine and Infectious Disease Divisions regularly collaborate with the Prevention Center in the conduct of research. Under the direction of the Prevention Center Medical Director and Administrative Manager, the Research Clinic APP and Administrator is responsible for maintaining strict adherence to Washington State and institutional standards and practices while performing requested activities within the Prevention Center for client study protocols.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the clinical lead to the Research Clinic, working daily with Medical Assistants in the conduct of research studies.
• Perform in accordance with study protocols medically indicated tasks which are at an advanced practitioner level. This may include determining the medical fitness of study participants according to the research protocol, physical exams, tissue biopsies (fat or muscle), IV line placements, blood draws from peripheral sites, endometrial or breast aspirates, and proper documentation of and timing of research-related procedures in source files (electronic and paper). Biopsy and peripheral line placement training is available.
• Supervise and assist medical assistants as required, and assist the Prevention Center's exercise specialists with study VO2 max/submax procedures when needed.
• Maintain current knowledge of and adherence to research protocols, standard operating procedures, and any protocol deviation documentation. May update concomitant medications and adverse events documentation in research files.
• Maintain open communication with research coordinators and investigators to provide and accept feedback, concerns, and status updates as needed.
• Maintain open communication with the Prevention Center's Administrative Manager to assure the coordination of resource services and representation of Research Clinic activities in all Prevention Center reporting.
• Support the Medical Assistants with daily operating procedures and study appointment scheduling, ensuring the smooth operating of the clinic.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years experience in clinical practice.
• Prior experience working in a research setting encouraged but not required.
• Maintain continuing education credits, ACLS certification and credentialing requirements to perform in accordance with Washington state Department of Health quality assurance, Center and IRB standards.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and MS Outlook).
• Experience with charting or data collection in EMR or CRF.
• Demonstrated ability to form respectful, productive working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
