Post-doctoral research positions available in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine (APCCM) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC)
Position Details: VUMC is recruiting two post-doctoral research scientists to investigate basic mechanisms of interstitial lung disease under the supervision of Dr. Timothy Blackwell and Dr. Jonathan Kropski. Our group has assembled a highly collaborative team of outstanding investigators with state-of-the-art expertise in molecular genetics, mouse modeling, cell and molecular biology, single cell biology, and translational research, thus allowing us to pursue a unique combination of genetic and molecular based approaches to discover critical pathways and cellular phenotypes that underlie the pathogenesis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and other interstitial lung diseases. We have recruited one of the world's largest cohorts of families with the heritable form of pulmonary fibrosis and we have collected a large biobank with specimens from patients with familial and sporadic interstitial lung disease.
Opportunities for research include:
Primary cell culture/organoids
Novel mouse models of pulmonary fibrosis
Immunophenotyping and investigation of immune mechanisms of fibrosis
Induced pluoripotent stem cells for disease modeling
Single-cell biology to investigate novel epithelial and fibroblast subsets in mouse models and human disease
Studies with primary cells and tissues from humans with interstitial lung diseases
Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team of physicians and scientists that are highly motivated to apply state-of-the-art methodology to investigate the underlying mechanisms of complex lungs diseases. Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent is required. This team has been working with the Division of APCCM for many years to characterize the pathobiology of familial and sporadic interstitial lung diseases.
Information about the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine:
The Division of APCCM includes more than 90 faculty and >20 post-doctoral trainees focused on clinical care and research across the spectrum of lung diseases. The Division of APCCM is a premier site for lung disease research in the U.S. and is a highly successful member of Vanderbilt's Department of Medicine, which is currently ranked 2 nd in NIH funding. Retention of faculty recruits to Vanderbilt is exceedingly high, confirming the collaborative, highly desirable work environment.
Applicants for this position should submit a cover letter, CV, and the names and contact information for a minimum of 3 references.
