The Principal Trainer - EHR/HIT (PT) is knowledgeable in the use of health information technology (HIT); data and information sciencesapplied to clinical care and health care business operations. The primary role of the PT is to design and develop EHR/HIT related curriculum and educational programs, as well as deliver EHR/HIT training. This role demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the creation and design of curriculum development strategies, Epic training environment build, adult learning principals & competencies, presentation skills & techniques, and the assessment of training programs.
Work across clinical decision support, information and knowledge management, clinical documentation, order entry/order sets/smart sets in system design, build, implementation, and adoption of the EHR and HIT.
Work collaboratively across clinical informatics (medical informatics, clinical decision support, clinical content, instructional design, site support & training, continuous improvement, clinical technologies), analytics, information technology, and operational teams as needed to meet goals.
Have a working knowledge of human-computer interaction and adult learning principles.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of EHR and HIT use across multiple service lines, domains, care settings, Epic modules and environments.

Build and maintain relationships across operations and IT and continually assesses the usability of HIT through observations, continuous evaluation and testing.
Adept in PDSA methods and change management, serving as change agents themselves. They team with informatics, IT, and operational colleagues to assess, plan, and evaluate changes to systems and can identify the impact of changes on clinical workflows.
Helps operations in prioritization of HIT needs and adheres to defined change processes in operations and IT.
Accurately identifies stakeholders and communicates clearly and effectively across the organization.
Creates/designs curriculum and development strategies under supervision :
Performs a needs analysis for learning with assistance.
Identifies and prioritizes critical content.

Learn how to assess customer usage of Epic applications.
Build an understanding of system training material standards.
Reviews evaluative data regarding training content and modifies content as appropriate.
Execute training to familiarize the EHR/HIT Site Support and Training team and Continuous Improvement team with newly created training materials.
Assists with training environment maintenance :
Trouble shoot the training and practice environments.
Demonstrates the technical skills to build patient profiles and histories appropriate to facilitate specific learning examples and exercises under supervision.
Tests curriculum examples and exercises in the training environment, communicate testing results to other principal trainer roles.
Assist with Epic learning home dashboard build and maintenance under supervision.
Ensure competency of end users through ongoing assessment and training :
Develop and test training plans and course curricula under supervision.
Participates in end user support through conducting training classes, one-to-one training, at-the-elbow support or remote assistance.
Assist with the configuration and setup of new clinical users within the EHR.
Teach and support applications, tools, and processes that assist clinicians with the management of data in patient care and the provision of health care.
Participates in communication of updates and changes of the applications to end users.
Identify opportunities to improve process, reduce variation and ensure effective and efficient use of resources :
Understand workflows and policies and continually implement improvements to training methods and materials.
Use best practices to enhance instructional design team and end user efficiency.
Collaborate with team members to reduce variation in processes and spread best practices.
Serve as a resource person for daily operational issues within the electronic health record and health information technology :
Use Service Now as needed to document daily work and enter incident and request tickets.
Resolve Service Now tickets in a timely manner with minimal rework and seeks appropriate guidance when needed.
Document and share applied solutions with team members.
Work directly with end users to understand and accurately describe issues.
Independently gather and document business requirements and processes/workflows across operational areas as assigned.
Implement solutions to system related problems as assigned.
Demonstrate independence and performs all tasks in a timely manner.
Act as a liaison between IT builder teams and clinical end users. Plans, estimates, and performs impact analysis of viable solutions to address business needs.
Work with other members of the team to implement solutions to system problems.

Bachelors Degree in health care or related field from an accredited program, informatics degree from an accredited institution or combination of education and experience.
1-3 years clinical healthcare experience and/or 1-3 years informatics-related experience working in a health system directly with end users
Must understand clinical care workflows, clinical operations, and have a working knowledge of computer systems and systems life cycle
Maintain current Epic certifications per vendor requirements and/or commitment to obtaining Epic certification within 6 months of employment.
Masters or Doctoral level degree in Instructional Design, informatics, or operational leadership
Looking for experienced (and certified) Epic Beaker Principal Trainers
Industry-level certifications such as AACN, HIMSS, Lean, etc.
Clinicians with other backgrounds are encouraged to maintain current certification(s) or licensure as applicable
