This is an opportunity to contributor and make an impact on the design and development of the next generation platform. Primary duties include building and maintaining modules for ingesting, processing and integrating real time and batch/real-time data in a big data environment. Programming for a Big Data distributed computing environment using Java, Scala or similar object-oriented programming languages. Collaboration and participation in the design and implementation of various projects. Involves high-level participation in the design and management of a computational infrastructure for different purposes including applied medical research.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*1. Builds and maintains modules for ingesting, processing and integrating real time and batch data in a big data environment. Builds data ingestion pipelines for the Big Data Hadoop environment.
*2. Programming for a Big Data distributed computing environment using Java, Scala or similar object-oriented programming languages.
*3. Programming data processing and integration algorithms on the Apache Hadoop, HBase stack.
*4. Coordinates projects and responsible for timely and accurate execution.
*5. Collaborates and participates in the design and implementation of various projects. Involves high-level participation in the design and management of a computational infrastructure for different purposes including applied medical research.
*6. Collaborates with other technology team members, clinicians and researchers on projects requiring data and analytic services.
*7. Works closely with data architects to define and execute an enterprise data architecture for complex healthcare data flows.
*8. Assumes leadership role in the initial deployment of data and analytics platform.
*9. Writes code for parallel computing. Develops new programs and responsible for moving existing code to high performance distributed systems code.
*10. Mentors and trains junior data engineers in best coding and design practices for the big data environment.
*11. Responsible to document all changes completed on the system within designated timeframes.
*12. Responsible for following department coding/programming guidelines to produce efficient routines. Provides preliminary code review, testing, debugging, and general testing instructions.
13. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates creative and innovative thinking with a focus on novel approaches to solving computational and analytic challenges.
Demonstrates proficiency with one or more scripting languages (bash/shell, Python, Perl, PHP, Ruby, etc.)
Demonstrates proficiency with large-scale databases and database languages (SQL, Hadoop, HBase, etc.)
Demonstrates proficiency with common object oriented programming languages (Java, Scala, C++, etc.)
Demonstrates the ability to work well in a medium sized team with effective technical communication skills.
Demonstrates experience working in Apache stack, Hadoop, HBase etc.
Demonstrates proficiency in writing code in MapReduce or other similar programing models.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s in Computer Science/Engineering, or related field required. Minimum of six years’ experience of programming in an object-oriented language required.
Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or related fields. Minimum of three years’ experience of programming in an object-oriented language required.
Experience in designing and developing and delivering a service or software product required.
Minimum of two years of experience developing code in Hadoop or a similar environment required.
Proficiency in writing code in MapReduce or other similar programing models.
Experience working in high volume complex data environment preferred.
If a suitably experienced candidate cannot be found, applicants who meet the basic qualifications but possess fewer years of experience will be considered for hire at a lower level. Salary would commensurate with experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Will be working in an office environment. Will be working on a personal computer 80% of the work day. May be required to travel off site for projects and /or meetings.
