HCA Research Institute’s Cardiovascular Research has conducted over 180 industry-sponsored trials and enrolled more than 2,000 patients since the program’s inception providing innovative approaches to clinical trial management.
Since 2007, the network has grown to 11 hospital programs across the country working in collaboration with more than 125 physician investigators in multiple sub-specialties: interventional, electrophysiology, heart failure, cardiothoracic surgery, endovascular surgery, peripheral, and structural heart.
Summary of Key Responsibilities: The Director of Research is responsible for the full scope of cardiovascular research operations. This includes: fiscal management, study operation, program development, patient recruitment, trial management, physician relationships, and colleague administration. Must have managerial and leadership skills and excellent organizational abilities. Works closely with North Texas division leadership as well as physicians and practice administrators.

Assists in developing and executing Sarah Cannon/Division internal and external strategies
Provides oversight, leadership and direction in the management of the North Texas clinical trials
Provides operational oversight and direction in the execution of trials
Assesses quality of data and performance of clinical trials and develops action plans to address performance gaps
Monitors patient accrual rates and implements action plans for sites with accrual issues
Assesses organizational processes associated with trial execution and identifies ways to improve and streamline internal procedures
Meets with the facilities and physician partners as needed to ensure contracted services are being provided by supporting departments
Keeps executive and management team abreast of issues, progress, and risks related to trial operations
Conducts regular departmental and staff meetings
Manages the performance of all research operations colleagues, including role expectations and performance reviews
Ensures general inquiries from current and prospective patients, sponsors, and physicians are appropriately routed and answered
Directs, motivates and trains staff as necessary
Develops, implements and evaluates programs to promote the recruitment, retention and continuing education of the cardiovascular research staff
Develops the cardiovascular clinical research operations budget, monitors expenses and stays within budget
Plans and facilitates meetings and committees to address clinical research issues
Responsible for ensuring the integrity of data/information, providing recommendations for corrective action when necessary
Attends and participates in all required meetings
Proactively handles standard of care or conflict of interest issues
Presents data and/or represents company at external forums as necessary
Collaborates with the quality department to support investigator initiated trials for publication
Knowledge of clinical research
Knowledge of organizational policies, standard operating procedures and systems
Communication skills, oral, written and presentation
At least five years of experience managing direct reports
At least five years of experience working in clinical research
Certification or License:
