We would like to hire an expert in flow cytometry analysis and cell sorting. This is a highly technical position. The applicant will be working with a diverse group of principal investigators, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and technicians. Cells stained with various combinations of fluorescently conjugated antibodies will be subjected to flow analysis on a Fortessa, LSR II, or sorted on a FACSAria III. While we have several standard panels, this position will require the ability to modify existing antibody panels or design new antibody panels depending on the research project. Samples to be analyzed are cells from a variety of tissues, including peripheral blood, adipose tissue, and skin. Many samples are from HIV infected and/or tuberculosis infected individuals; so prior experience with biosafety level 2 or 3 procedures is desirable. Some experience billing for procedures is also desirable, since these techniques are part of core services provided by the Tennessee Center for AIDS Research.
Work with PIs, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students to perform flow-cytometry based research projects in a near to totally independent manner.
Supervise, plan, design and implement research projects
Establish protocol(s); define data collection, evaluation and analysis procedures for flow cytometry
Exercise discretion and independent judgment to develop methods and procedures for operation of complex scientific equipment
Operation of various scientific experiments involving complex apparatus and equipment, including BD Fortessa, LSR II and FacsAria III.
Contribute to research so as to merit serving as author or co-author on research publications, this will include writing and proofreading methods sections on manuscripts
Assist principal investigator in preparation of grant applications and contract proposals
Present research findings at laboratory meetings as needed
Responsible for plan and coordination of literature and library searches and data collection programs
Develop reports of results, graphs, charts, tables, etc. of research findings
Supervise writing, reviewing and editing of various materials for publication
Provide supervisory responsibility to staff
Train and supervise technical staff, medical and graduate students
Provide technical guidance to students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty as required
Provide budget responsibility, this will include billing for core services, and ordering supplies
Make recommendations to principal investigator regarding staff, supply and equipment needs for research projects
May monitor expenditures of funds
Maintain open communication between department and others
Open contact as needed with principal investigator, collaborating professionals, Purchasing, Human Resource Services,
Space and Facilities Planning, asset management personnel, Environmental Health and Safety, Institutional Review Board staff, administrative staff relating to budget capabilities
Contact as required with sponsoring agencies and/or cooperating facilities (e.g. V.A.), collaborating professionals and vendors
Analyze flow cytometry data using FACSDiva or FlowJo software.
