The RA II will conduct experiments and assays, maintain the laboratory and equipment and maintain inventories. A primary duty will be maintenance of the laboratory mouse colony, including breeding, weaning and genotyping, to support research the research of a vibrant lab with multiple research projects. The RA II will operate and maintain essential equipment, such as cell culture and plate readers as well as keep essential buffers and stock solutions in supply.
Conduct standard ELISA, coagulation, and fluorescent assays with oversight on both animal and human tissues
Proficient pipetting skills
Proficient at basic molecular biology assays including western blots, qPCR, standard PCR, and Bradford assays.
Proficient at basic cell culture techniques utilizing immortalized cell lines.
Proficient as basic scientific calculation for dilutions
Ordering of lab supplies
Washing and drying of lab glassware and plasticware
Work independently and troubleshoot assay problems with the help of a senior lab member
Able to organize, analyze, and present data to other members of the lab.
Proficient at presenting data in both a written and oral format to lab members
Proficient at analyzing primary literature to assist in assay design
Work with senior lab members to design assays with appropriate positive and negative controls
Maintain lab notes in an organized manner
Obtain, organize, and analyze human samples from various proved IRB studies
Organization and maintain of mouse colony
Organization of breeders, monitoring for litters, and updating litters in online catalog (mLims)
Weening of mice (ear tagging and cataloging in mLims)
Genotyping of mice and updating information in mLims
Standard mouse treatments (Paralube, antibotics, etc) as needed
Checking Mouse diets weekly
Assist lab members in administration of analgesic to mice following surgical procedures
Assist lab members in radiographic analysis of animals following injury and organize data.
Assist lab members in tissue collection following animal sacrifice
Assist lab members in locating previous animal samples for analysis
Washing and drying of lab glassware and plasticware
Autoclaving supplies as needed for surgical procedures
Organization of lab supplies and stocking of shelves in animal surgery bench
Keeping refrigerators, freezers, and mouse sample log up to date.
Preference but not necessary:
Experience with primary cellular culture techniques
Experience with flow cytometry
Excellent attention to detail
Work as a member of a team
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and optimize daily schedule with minimal oversight
