A cancer research lab seeks a self-motivated, research assistant with significant biological research experience for translational research work in human leukemia and immunology. The research assistant must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, work well with others, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment. The research assistant must also have excellent time management and interpersonal communication skills and be comfortable leading projects in the lab at the discretion of the PI as well as assist other lab members on other projects. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out research experiments with minimal supervision from the laboratory's principal investigator and work seamlessly with collaborators and other members of the lab. The job will also require interaction with colleagues and collaborators in a professional and thoughtful manner.
Minimum of bachelor's degree
at least 4 years of prior experience working in a biology laboratory
prior experience conducting a cell biology research project that included interpreting results and presenting findings (e.g. presenting a project summary, creating a poster, writing a thesis)

The ideal candidate will also have the following:
demonstrate advanced knowledge of cell and molecular biology in context of cancer
excellent organization and communication skills
experience in molecular biology (CRISPR, lentiviral transduction, etc).
experience in sample preparation for next generation sequencing and basic analysis
hands-on experience with one or both of the following advanced cytometry techniques:
phospho-specific flow cytometry (phospho-flow)
experience with cytometry data analysis
experience preparing scientific figures
experience with preparation of viable cell suspensions from tissue
tissue culture with suspension and adherent cells
Job responsibilities are expected to include:
1. Perform under minimal supervision, plan, conduct and evaluate experiments and assays of varying complexity.
1a. Plan and coordinate experiments in conjunction with Principal Investigator (PI).
1b. Understand and follow experimental protocols
1c. Record, compile, interpret, and communicate data/results.
1d. Follow University safety protocols for all lab reagents
1e. Perform calculations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions.
2. Prepare, operate and troubleshoot equipment in experimental procedures.
2a. Recommend equipment and supplies needed for research projects.
2b. Read and follow all equipment manuals.
2c. Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and University guidelines.
3. Ensure laboratory is prepared for experiments.
3a. Maintain inventories.
3b. Maintain sterile conditions as required.
3c. Prepare reagents.
4. Assist PI in modifying procedures and techniques.
4a. Recognize problems and suggest solutions, assist in modifications.
4b. Recommend improvements to established techniques and/or protocols.
4c. Maintain personal knowledge of scientific trends through literature reviews, attendance at meetings, conferences and seminars.
5. Provide appropriate written/oral documentation of experiments
5a. Prepare research progress reports.
5b. Analyze and summarize test results.
5c. Preparation and oral presentation of data as required
6. Assist in the effective operation of the laboratory.
