If you are a Palliative Care physician looking to work in an academic setting, to be involved in medical education, and providing integrative care for patients and families, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center is looking for a full time Palliative Care Physician to join the Pain and Palliative Care Service.
The NIH Clinical Center is a 200-bed research hospital dedicated to translational clinical research. Established in 2000, the Pain and Palliative Care consultation service is well integrated into the research hospital, providing physical, psychosocial, and spiritual support for patients and caregivers participating in Clinical Center research protocols. The Pain and Palliative Care Service also practices an integrative model, melding pharmacologic and complementary modalities.
The individual will work within Pain & Palliative Care, a consultative service, with core clinical team members consisting of 3 physicians, 2 advanced practice nurses, and 2 Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellows. Consultation is provided throughout all inpatient units and outpatient settings within the Clinical Center. Weekly interdisciplinary team meetings include: nurses, social workers, chaplains, recreation therapists, acupuncturists, dieticians, and patient representative.
The Pain & Palliative Care Service has its own active outpatient clinic that includes acupuncturist, chaplain, and recreation therapists in addition to core team members. The physician will be a core faculty within the accredited medical fellowship training program, teaching Hospice and Palliative fellows and rotators from outside fellowships and residency programs. The physician will also be expected to collaborate with Institutes to support research studies and to conduct research within the team.
This is a Title 42 federal appointment in the excepted service. This appointment offers federal benefits. A full benefits package includes retirement, health, life and long term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan participation, etc.
