Job Summary: This individual will create and maintain the research study records. Manages all research billing protocols for services within the Hospital system that have been approved through the IRB and Research Office. Performs billing review after verification from study investigators or coordinators. Works with Billing Compliance for in depth investigation for all associated research study patients' accounts to ensure charges are routed appropriately.
This individual will serve as a liaison and resource to coordinators in evaluating needs/requirements for Research studies and billing protocols; thus excellent customer service skills, along with highly effective written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
The Research Specialist works independently and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks. Days and hours worked may be variable.
Department Position Summary: The employee must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive support for systems/applications to which he/she is assigned. The employee must demonstrate knowledge in healthcare billing operations within the Research Department.
Education Required: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience. Medical terminology.
Preferred: Clinical Research certification or Billing education.
Experience: Required: Two years prior experience in a related medical field; One year operational experience in a clinical or healthcare business/billing operations setting or a year of computer courses. General understanding of the work flows in clinical or healthcare business operations.
Preferred: Advanced research coordinator with a propensity for information technology, or IT background with excellent communication skills and commitment to learning about research workflows

The employee must have:
Experience with current research-related workflows. Understanding of the range of considerations around research, including research-patient tracking, billing, recruitment, treatment flows, etc. Interest in learning about the Epic applications and how functionality can facilitate research-related activities. Document research approved decisions for recruitment and enrollment. Execute creation/maintenance of study records and billing protocols. Work with Epic Research application team as needed for extensive Research-related build. Demonstrate basic knowledge of computer systems and Research application Communicates effectively with users, colleagues, and Epic Analyst Team.
