The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse to support the Clinical Trials Program at the John P. Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MCC.
The John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed Bethesda is a modern, patient-centric, tri-service military healthcare facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologists and other cancer-trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient-family support services. Our Cancer Center, the only DoD Cancer Center of Excellence within the Military Health System, offers its patients access to cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment technologies.
Monitors the progress of assigned clinical research projects and provides regular updates to the PI.
Assists and trains the clinical research staff members when needed.
Responsible for coordinating single and multiple sites research projects, and all research related activity at all sites.
Assists the Principal Investigator with IRB issues.
Educates the patients and their families on the research protocol and what the patient responsibilities are.
Consents patients, and interviews patients to collect data on health history and lifestyle practices.
Reviews new patient records and screens patients for eligibility for participating in research protocol.
Randomizes patients according to standard tables.
Draws blood and obtain other specimens as necessary.
Identifies problems in the research design or analysis methodology and trends in patient reactions to treatment. Collects, organizes catalogs, disseminates, and maintains appropriate files of current data. Enters data into a computerized database.
Maintains weekly/monthly status reports on all patients.
Maintains clinical research folder on each subject.
Schedules all patient examinations, repeat examinations, follow ups, treatments, and laboratory tests required by the protocol.
Adheres to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.
May analyze and interpret data.
Performs other duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks; ability to learn and become proficient in data acquisition and clinical responsibilities related to research protocols; excellent interpersonal skills.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in nursing
Minimum Experience: 2 to 4 years nursing experience, at least 1 year in oncology research.
Physical Capabilities: Long periods of sitting, standing, escorting patients, carrying light items; may encounter patients who are confused, agitated, or abusive
Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Licensed as a Registered Nurse, certified in basic cardiac life support
Work Environment: Office and clinical patient care area; possible evening and/or weekend hours.
Must be a US Citizen and pass a favorable National Agency Check.
