The University of Illinois Cancer Center is seeking candidates for Research Scientist positions in the University of Illinois Cancer Center. As part of this dynamic team the Research Scientist serves as Director of multiple research projects and is devoted to research at Mile Square Health Center (MSHC) in partnership with Community Engagement, Research, and Implementation Science. In addition this position is required to apply for federal or foundation grants as PI or Co-Investigator, publish original research in peer reviewed publications, along with assisting in grant writing and progress reports to funding agencies. Recruits, supervises and/or trains staff members or students.
Key Responsibilities for this position include: direct and oversee the specialized community based research conducted in Mile Square Health Center in collaboration with the UI Cancer Center; use proper scientific methods for publication and participate in scientific symposia; analyze data and information, evaluate and report findings to Senior Research Faculty and other involved research staff; author and coauthor articles for publication and participate in scientific hypotheses development and implementation; develop and maintain research records, grant information, research notes and resource utilization; identify and coordinate working relationships with peers and other appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives; direct project budget and research aims to achieve sponsor objectives; attend meetings and committees related to the research projects, and represent MSHC as a liaison with other research scientists and investigators nationally and internationally; plan, assign and review work of staff to ensure that sponsor and research objectives are met; and hire, train, develop and manage staff as needed. Minimum of a PhD in science or health related field required, a minimum of five (5) years' experience in health related research experience required, and knowledge of analysis software and statistics.
